What is the Chain of Education Weinheim?

The Chain of Education Weinheim is a chain of educational assistance accompanying children for an extended period of time from pre-school to vocational orientation. It is conceived as an overall municipal concept consisting of several projects and actors. The Chain of Education Weinheim is based on the idea of having the community, civil society, local businesses, schools and job agencies form a local alliance with the aim of ensuring the successful development of children and adolescents.

Integration Central Weinheim and Job Central Weinheim are the driving motors of the Chain of Education Weinheim. Integration Central and Job Central are part of the municipal education office, which is the first institution at the municipal level in Baden-Württemberg to be supported by the state program “Impulsprogramm Bildungsregion” since 2011. On an operational level, Integration Central is supporting three “Griffbereit” groups striving to promote language skill and the education of parents that is designed for mothers with small children as well as four “Rucksack” groups for mothers with kindergarten children.

Like Integration Central, Job Central also stands on two legs, so to speak: one is the municipality and the other civil society. The tasks of planning, coordinating and improving the quality of the transition from school to working life have been anchored at the municipal level. As a result of this work, a quality guideline for internships has been drawn up, in which secondary schools (Werkrealschule) and companies agree on quality criteria and exact areas of responsibility. The operational implementation and further development of practical support measures is the task of the private supporting organization, which is supported by the Freudenberg Foundation and eight other municipalities of the Badische Bergstrasse region. The special feature of Job Central is the close cooperation between teachers, volunteer mentors as well as full-time youth counselors, who are responsible for individual assistance as well as violence prevention projects and bonding within the class in the secondary school (Werkrealschule) and vocational schools.

What are the goals?

The objective of the Chain of Education Weinheim is to improve the educational, social and vocational integration of children and adolescents through local and regional cooperation in communities and civil society by helping children and adolescents successfully make the transitions from their family to kindergarten, from kindergarten to elementary school, from elementary school to a secondary school and to an apprenticeship and college.

What does the Chain of Education Weinheim do?
The Chain of Education Weinheim concentrates on initiating, implementing and accompanying the following six key processes:

  • parent participation that is oriented along the competencies of the families, e.g. their multilingualism,
  • language promotion (e.g. German as second language) and promotion of multilingualism,
  • individual paths of education of the children and adolescents (enhancing the child’s individual potential, promoting self-determined learning, “learning to learn”),
  • accompanying the individual path of education,
  • systematic job orientation and individual career planning up to the integration in vocational training,
  • involvement of children and adolescents, who can also learn from one another.

Furthermore, the Chain of Education Weinheim:

  • bundles, disseminates and harmonizes diverse, already existing promotion concepts, projects and activities, above all in the field of parent education and language promotion (e.g. Griffbereit, Rucksack Kindergarten, Rucksack School),
  • brings together parents and those persons responsible for or involved in the education of their children,
