The Freudenberg Foundation has been actively pursuing the integration of mentally ill persons in the employment market since 1985. At the beginning, the efforts focused on dissipating and advising integration firms.

Now, for one, the foundation promotes the dissipation of exemplary jobs where mentally ill persons can earn additional income. As in the past, it is still difficult for mentally ill persons, who cannot pursue a regular full-time job because of the limitations imposed by their disability, to find flexible and at the same time skilled additional-income jobs where they can work by the hour, either in an integration firm or not. In addition, prizes are awarded every year to path-breaking business concepts and organization models.
