The Freudenberg Foundation is supporting two Roma education centers which were founded and are being managed by Roma themselves in Gorce Petrov and Suto Orizari near Skopje in Macedonia respectively. Within the scope of the overall program, the focus is on promoting language skills and above all including the mothers in the elementary schools of the two towns.
For this purpose, the proven „Rucksack“ program has been adapted to Macedonian circumstances. Furthermore, fixed funds were made available so that the organisation could purchase a house in Suto Orizari, where the same broad range of programs for children, adolescents and their families could be offered. Suto Orizari has a population of about 40,000 and almost all of them are Roma. The project in Macedonia also is being supported by the „Roma Education Fund“.
