We foster an everyday culture in schools and society as a whole that reinforces democratic thinking and behavior and effectively combats group-focused antagonisms. Our goal is to create a culture of equality, in which everyone can be different without fear or the risk of denigration.

"Young People and Democracy" project study, Wisconsin (US)

The practically oriented study examines the questions of why so many young people in the USA are not consistent supporters of democracy and what possible approaches could be adopted to bring about a change in their attitude.
In the swing state Wisconsin, quantitative and qualitative surveys are being conducted among young people from the black and white population to discover how they perceive the democratic system and the issues and values that are important to them. The project is dedicated to understanding the reasons behind the high levels of inconsistent support for democracy observed among Americans 18-to-29 years of age, sharing this knowledge broadly among foundations, academics, and activists in the United States, and developing pilot interventions to address the problem. With higher levels of inconsistent of support for democracy among 18-to-29 years olds a documented problem in Europe as well, our approach has Transatlantic implications.

The Saxon Prize for Democracy is an accolade bestowed on initiatives that campaign against right-wing violence, for human rights, and for promoting a democratic civil society in Saxony.

Democracy needs democrats. It sounds so simple, but it's actually a daily challenge. Presented each year, the Saxon Prize for Democracy is our way of supporting the projects and initiatives of the many committed democrats striving at different levels to protect and strengthen democracy in Saxony.

Saxon Prize for Democracy, Amadeu Antonio Foundation

The Saxon Prize for Democracy is an accolade bestowed on initiatives that campaign against right-wing violence, for human rights, and for promoting a democratic civil society in Saxony.
Worth 5,000 euros, the prize is awarded each year by the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, the Cellex Foundation, the Dirk Oelbermann Foundation, the Freudenberg Foundation and the Sebastian Cobler Foundation, and has numerous other supporters, such as the Stern magazine, the Central German Broadcasting Corporation (mdr) and several Ministers of State in Saxony. In addition, since 2014 municipal commitment has been honored with an unendowed Municipality Prize.

The Freudenberg Foundation supports the Saxon Prize in order to strengthen and publicly spotlight those people who on a daily basis in what are in most cases structurally disadvantaged areas stand up to right-wing-populist influences.

Service-Learning in Saxony, Aktion Zivilcourage e. V.

The goal of the cooperation agreement between the Foundation for Learning through Civic Engagement, the Saxony Youth Foundation, Aktion Zivilcourage e. V., the Freudenberg Foundation and Saxony’s Ministry of Culture and Education is to anchor Service-Learning at all of Saxony’s schools in the long term.
Service-Learning stands for a teaching/learning approach that links civic engagement of pupils with substantive learning. In Saxony, the focus is on the #netzrevolte project for fostering democratic competence in the digital society. The Freudenberg Foundation is supporting Service-Learning in Saxony, in order to ensure that this type of school education, communicating as it does its contents with meaningful realism and encouraging adolescents to ...read more

The Coordination Office for Service-Learning in Saxony is committed to supporting schools in establishing more learning and practice areas which promote democracy and to accompanying them in a needs-based and participatory manner.

The Expert Council on Integration and Migration (SVR)

The Expert Council on Integration and Migration (SVR) aims to offer political decision-makers action-oriented recommendations and critical coverage in the thematic fields of integration and migration.
The SVR consists of nine academics, who together draw up an annual assessment report and take a stance on current debates. Moreover, the ""Integration Barometer" is an instrument designed to measure the integration climate in Germany using surveys of people with and without a migration background. The primary concerns of the SVR and its research department are to edit on an academically substantiated basis the relevant facts for society as a whole and politicians in particular in what is often an emotionally charged field of integration and migration, to discuss relevant options, and thus objectify the ongoing debate.

The participants research regional contemporary history with participative methods and new perspectives. For qualified educationalists, the project offers didactic-methodological support and consultancy. Through a regional perspective for accessing history with the “Timetrail I Urban.History & Remembrance” project, I aim to initiate a self-critical reflection on the potency of exclusionary language, and together with young people discuss the historical consequences of fascist stereotypes, of racism and anti-semitism.
